Craftsmanship and golf are an integral part of Scottish culture. Fyfe Golf was created from the desire of connecting these traditions and supporting the continuation of Scottish manufacturing in a modern, sustainable way. Neil Rennie founded the business with the desire to ensure sustainability was ingrained in the culture and key goals of the brand. Positive Planet recently sat down with Neil to discuss how Fyfe Golf’s sustainability journey has gone so far.

As an avid golfer, Neil had spent much time around golf club pro shops and retailers in the golf market. Neil quickly became aware of the lack of locally produced sustainable golf products available. Fyfe Golf wanted to rectify this detachment by producing products locally and sustainably to provide an alternative option for golfers looking for well made products with Scottish provenance, fusing the traditional manufacturing base in Scotland with modern design.

Another challenge Neil uncovered was the need for further education for himself, his employees, and consumers as sustainability is often a very complex and sometimes daunting subject. Fyfe Golf was keen to engage with Positive Planet as they looked to make a positive environmental impact.

After seeing similar work with Aberdeen FC and BrewDog, Fyfe Golf engaged with the Positive Planet Team to explore the options of reducing their environmental impact and mitigating their emissions.

To their surprise, the user-friendly Positive Planet process allowed a swift and accurate measurement of their carbon footprint to offer a better understanding of where their emissions were coming from.

With a physical figure, Positive Planet could then help Fyfe Golf offset their total emissions to achieve Carbon Neutral Certification. Fyfe Golf have further plans to engage with Positive Planet as their business grows to develop a Carbon Reduction Plan that will help lessen the subsequent emissions that arise as the business continues to grow.

“From the initial conversation with Positive Planet, it was clear they had a genuine passion for supporting businesses, whatever their size or status. In a complex area, the team at Positive Planet were able to provide clear and informative advice. The process and the platform provided for carbon measurement was easy to use and the team were on hand to quickly answer any questions. With all business owners and teams busy with growing their business and looking after their customers, the efficient and effective process with Positive Planet is invaluable.”

Neil Rennie, Founder, Fyfe Golf

Amongst the positive activities Fyfe Golf are doing already, they achieved Carbon Neutral Certification with Positive Planet in order to legitimise their position as a sustainable brand.

The accreditation holds them in a positive light within the golfing industry when sharing their successes with consumers and boosts their reputation amongst competitors. This also brings a level of integrity to the Fyfe Golf brand as they become a more trusted business to consumers within the industry.

As well as engaging with several other environmental agencies, Fyfe Golf are also supporting charitable organisations and look to continue and increase this support as the business grows. They are now focussing on the full manufacturing process of their products, specifically at end-of-life, to ensure all products are as sustainable as possible from manufacturing to end of use.
