After three months behind the wheel of the Polestar 2, Positive Planet Co-founder, Stephen Henry, shares his honest reflections and detailed insights on life with the EV so far.
Behind the Wheel of the Polestar 2: A Game-Changer in Sustainable Driving
From the moment I first drove the Polestar 2, it was clear this wasn’t just an electric vehicle — it was an experience. Here are just a few reasons why I’ve fallen in love with this car:
Pure Driving Joy: The Polestar 2 is simply great fun to drive. Its instant torque, smooth handling, and refined performance make every journey something to look forward to.
Universally Loved: It’s not just me who’s impressed. Everyone who’s seen or experienced the car has had something positive to say. We’ve taken the car out to visit clients, and everyone has been really impressed by how it looks and how it drives. The family loves it too. Whether it is the weekly football runs or collecting my boys and their friends, everyone likes the Polestar. I’ve even managed to convert one of my petrolhead friends, who is wowed by the sensational performance and driving dynamics of the Polestar 2.
Incredible Range: With an amazing range of over 300 miles, the Polestar 2 has completely eliminated any concerns I had about business travel in an EV. I’ve done a few long-distance trips of over 200 miles each way which I have managed on a single charge with no issues of finding a free or operational charger.
Practicality Meets Style: Whether it’s the generous boot space or clever storage solutions, the Polestar 2 proves that practicality doesn’t have to come at the expense of design and performance.
Busting EV Myths: The Easy Transition to Electric
One of the biggest surprises has been just how seamless the switch to an electric vehicle has been. There are plenty of myths out there about EV ownership — especially around range anxiety and charging difficulties — but my experience has been the exact opposite.
Charging is simple, with a growing network of fast chargers making top-ups convenient whether at home, work, or on the go. And with that impressive range, daily driving and even longer trips are effortless. The Polestar 2 has shown that moving to an EV isn’t just a sustainable choice — it’s a smart, enjoyable one too. We’re fortunate to have both EV charging and solar panels at our office, so when I do drive in to work, I can top up the battery in the most environmentally friendly way.
When I had a petrol/diesel car I occasionally got to a point where I was running on vapours but I’m finding this less of an issue with an EV. I can charge the car in convenience at home or at work, so it is ready when I need it. So far, I haven’t experienced any big issues with the public charging network either. Driving an EV does require a change in behaviour, and I have made some mistakes, but charging typically isn’t a big deal.
A few Positive Planet clients have expressed concern that EV’s don’t work for business travel but I’m finding it a less stressful way to drive. The car is quieter and more refined than an equivalent internal combustion engine car, so I arrive feeling less tired. I thought that stopping to charge would be a pain, but I don’t need to do it very often because of the great range of the Polestar and when I do need to it typically charges in about 20 mins on a fast charger.
